Province-Wide Smart Home Device Installation Program

The Smart Home Device/Peak Rewards Installation Program, administered by BC Hydro, was a forward-thinking initiative designed to enhance energy efficiency and modernize homes across British Columbia. By equipping households with cutting-edge smart home technology, the program empowered residents to monitor and optimize their energy use, reducing utility costs while contributing to environmental sustainability.

Our Role in the Program
At It’s On Electric Company, we proudly partnered with BC Hydro to deliver this innovative program to homes across the province. Leveraging our expertise in electrical systems and smart technology, we worked with a network of highly skilled subcontractors to provide seamless installations and exceptional service to hundreds of households.

Smart Home Device Installations

Our team installed a variety of smart home devices designed to improve energy management and convenience for residents. These devices included:

  • Smart Thermostats: Installed and configured to provide precise temperature control and scheduling, helping homeowners reduce energy consumption while maintaining comfort.

  • Smart Plugs: Connected to lighting and appliances, enabling remote control and automation for improved efficiency.

  • Smart Light Bulbs: Energy-efficient LED bulbs with customizable settings, such as dimming and color adjustments, managed via smartphone apps or voice assistants.

  • Load Controllers:  Installed to manage the power consumption of larger appliances and electrical loads, these devices allowed homeowners to control high-energy-use systems, such as water heaters and electric baseboards, from their smartphones. Sinope load controllers enabled efficient energy use, especially during peak demand periods, helping to lower utility bills and reduce strain on the grid.

  • Home Energy Monitors: Devices that tracked real-time energy usage, giving residents greater insight into their energy habits and opportunities for savings.

Electrical Testing and System Integration

To ensure safe and effective installations, our team conducted comprehensive electrical testing and integration at each site. This included:

  • Circuit Testing: Verifying that circuits could accommodate the new smart devices without overloading the system.

  • Wi-Fi Compatibility: Testing the home’s Wi-Fi network to ensure seamless connectivity for the smart devices.

  • System Integration: Ensuring that the smart devices integrated smoothly with existing systems, such as HVAC units, lighting, and appliances.

Resident Education and Support

As part of our commitment to customer satisfaction, we provided residents with personalized guidance on how to use their new smart devices effectively. This included:

  • Device Demonstrations: Hands-on tutorials to help residents understand the features and functionality of their new technology.

  • App Setup and Connectivity: Assisting residents in setting up mobile apps and connecting their devices to Wi-Fi networks.

  • Energy Efficiency Tips: Sharing practical advice on how to maximize the benefits of their smart home technology.

Province-Wide Delivery Through Regional Hubs

To meet the program's ambitious scope, we implemented a province-wide delivery model through regional hubs. This approach allowed us to efficiently serve diverse communities, from urban centers to rural and remote areas, ensuring equitable access to the benefits of the program.

Impact and Outcomes

Through this program, hundreds of homes across British Columbia were equipped with smart home technology, helping residents take control of their energy use and reduce their environmental impact. Our involvement in this project reflects our dedication to delivering innovative, sustainable solutions and ensuring that BC Hydro’s vision of smarter, energy-efficient homes became a reality.

At It’s On Electric Company, we are proud to have been a trusted partner in this initiative, showcasing our expertise in smart technology and our commitment to building a more energy-efficient future for British Columbia.
