Heat Pump Dryer
Initiative Pilot Program

The Heat Pump Dryer Initiative, led by BC Hydro, was a pilot program aimed at testing the efficiency and practicality of heat pump dryer technology in residential settings. This cutting-edge technology uses significantly less energy than traditional electric dryers, offering an environmentally friendly alternative for households. The initiative was designed to assess the performance, energy savings, and user experience of heat pump dryers, paving the way for wider adoption of energy-efficient appliances in British Columbia.

Our Role in the Program
At It’s On Electric Company, we were proud to support BC Hydro in this innovative pilot program. Our team worked closely with residents in the Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island to install and evaluate heat pump dryers, ensuring optimal performance and satisfaction.

Installation of Heat Pump Dryers

As part of this program, we provided comprehensive installation and support services for participating households. This included:

  • Site Assessments: Conducting on-site evaluations to determine the suitability of each home for the installation of heat pump dryers, including venting and space requirements.

  • Electrical Inspections: Ensuring that the home’s electrical system could support the new appliance safely and efficiently.

  • Heat Pump Dryer Installation: Installing and setting up the dryer according to manufacturer specifications to ensure optimal performance and energy efficiency.

  • System Testing: Performing functionality tests to confirm the dryer was operating correctly and achieving the desired energy savings.

Resident Education and Feedback Collection

As a key part of the pilot program, we provided residents with education and support to maximize the benefits of the new technology. This included:

  • Operational Guidance: Demonstrating how to use and maintain the heat pump dryer effectively, including tips for optimizing drying cycles and conserving energy.

  • Energy Savings Insights: Highlighting the potential savings and environmental benefits of using a heat pump dryer over traditional models.

  • Feedback Collection: Working with BC Hydro to gather feedback from residents on their experiences with the heat pump dryers, including performance, ease of use, and satisfaction levels.

Impact and Outcomes

This pilot program was a vital step in exploring the potential of heat pump dryer technology as a sustainable and energy-efficient solution for households. Through our role in the initiative, It’s On Electric Company helped BC Hydro evaluate the technology’s real-world performance and gather valuable insights to inform future programs.

By participating in the Heat Pump Dryer Initiative, we showcased our commitment to supporting innovative technologies that reduce energy consumption and environmental impact. This project reflects our dedication to working with forward-thinking partners like BC Hydro to create a more sustainable future for homes across British Columbia.
